Playing piano is one of my best decisions

I have played the oboe since I was about eight years old. It was hard at first but when I got the hang of it it was really fun. A friend of mine from kindergarden started to play the oboe too and now, eight years later, we still play in the same orchestra. I still play the oboe because it’s so fun in the orchestra and I have good friends there. I don’t play to improve that much, just so I can play the pieces we play together. A year ago I wanted to play another instrument. I wanted to be able to play an instrument for myself in case I some day decides to quit the orchestra. Then I realized what I wanted to learn. The piano, of course.

I started to watch youtube videos on how to play certain songs on the piano. I wished for a digital piano as a christmas gift. I waited and I waited. Finally I got it and it was even harder to play than I thought it was. I stayed up to midnight and played with the included headphones on.

In the beginning I wanted to learn the piano myself and don’t go and take piano lessons. I watched a lot of youtube and learned some new things but it took more time. A few months from now, I started to take piano lessons and I have improved a lot faster since then.

The fun part with a piano is that music theory is more important and understandable when you play it than for example the oboe. On a piano, you have all the notes in front of you and you have the power to do what you want with it. All the chords, scales and songs are logical when you see the notes in front of you. On an oboe, you need to hold down the buttons in many different ways to play the notes you want. On the piano, you need to hold down one key and that’s it.
